Happy Birthday iPod!

The iPod was introduced for the first time 10 years ago today, on October 23 2001. Steve Jobs described the 5GB device as “1,000 songs in your pocket,” and its popularity paved the way for later versions of the iPod, as well as countless other MP3 players.

I worked at Best Buy back in 2001, and actually used my fancy employee discount to buy one of these (which still works by the way). Being able to carry my entire CD collection around with me back then made me the talk of my school. There were certainly MP3 players already in existence back then, but nothing like the iPod.

Did any of you have an original iPod? Is yours still kicking?
