Apple Adding a New iPad Manufacturer, Releasing New Model in September?

Apple may be working on an iPad 3 to release this fall – and getting support from another manufacturer in order to do so.

According to DigiTimes Apple is looking for a second manufacturing partner to help build the iPad 3, after an explosion at Foxconn’s plant earlier this year. Foxconn is currently the exclusive manufacturer of the iPad, and the explosion (which halted production for a period of time) reportedly convinced Apple that it needed to diversify its partners in order to minimize its personal risk.

The two companies in top running for the iPad 3 manufacturer spot are thought to be Quantra who is responsible for much of Apple’s Mac production, and Pegratron who was responsible for manufacturing the CDMA iPhone 4.

A new iPad with a high resolution screen dubbed iPad 2 + or iPad HD is rumored to be launched in September with a new version of the iPhone.
