The iPad Air 3 is already expected to borrow a few features from the iPad Pro, such as the surround sound speakers, but the new tablet could also surpass its bigger sibling in one key category. According to DigiTimes, the iPad Air 3 will offer an impressive 4K display compared to the 2K iPad Pro.
The report also notes that the iPad Air 3 could pack up to 4GB of RAM (same as the iPad Pro) and improved battery life. The news comes from DigiTimes’ supply chain sources, which aren’t always reliable. Slapping a 4K display on the 9.7-inch tablet does seem like a strange move, though Apple may be desperate to sell more iPads after reporting another quarterly decline in sales this week.
Rumor has it the iPad Air 3 could also sport four speakers like the iPad Pro, and offer support for the Apple Pencil. It may even pack a rear-facing flash according to one leaked blueprint, though that seems unlikely.
Apple is allegedly set to announce the iPad Air 3 at an event in March, alongside the rumored iPhone 5se and some new Apple Watch bands. The upcoming tablet may be the star of the show, though we’re also pretty eager to get a look at the company’s mysterious 4-inch smartphone.
