There’s been a recent flood of rumors suggesting Apple is hard at work on a secret new project: an electric car that could challenge Tesla along with the rest of the auto industry. Now, a lengthy new report from AppleInsider claims to reveal where the company is developing this vehicle, allegedly code named “Project Titan,” and how it has kept it a secret for so long.

AppleInsider notes that it first heard Apple was actively poaching Tesla employees last fall, but couldn’t verify the news at the time. By now, it’s become pretty clear that something is going on between the two companies. Digging a little deeper, it turns out Cupertino’s secret project could be hidden in Sunnyvale, CA just a few minutes away from its main headquarters.

Citing a couple of anonymous insiders and official building permits, the report sheds light on the office building where Apple’s Car could be hidden. The company has apparently constructed a “repair garage” and an “auto work area” in the space it has codenamed “SG5.” This is where Apple’s auto engineers may work, allegedly hiding their official badges as they enter and exit the building to avoid public scrutiny.

AppleInsider also points to an associated research firm called SixtyEight, which it claims could be a front for more Apple Car secrets. Unfortunately, there’s still no word on exactly what the company is actually up to behind the walls of its secret Sunnyvale campus, though it seems like an electric vehicle may be the answer.
