Square Cash was already one of the easiest ways to swap money between friends and now it’s even easier. When the service first launched last year, it let you send money to anyone with an email address by simply writing out the amount of cash to transfer in the subject line. Now the mobile payments app lets you transfer money with a quick message instead.

Just like before, the recipient doesn’t even need to set up a Square Cash account for the service to work. Just open the app and send money to anyone in your phone’s contacts. The new user interface is even designed to look like a threaded text conversation. Little word bubbles show each time you’ve sent or received money from a contact and a note with details on what you paid for.

Square Cash is aimed straight at consumers, but the new text-to-pay feature should also give the company an edge with smaller businesses, too. You might already be used to a competitor like Venmo or PayPal, but Square Cash sounds like a good alternative if you haven’t already jumped on board with a payment service.
