It’s one of those familiar Apple rumors that just won’t die. Bloomberg on Tuesday reported that Apple, which is on the cusp of releasing two larger iPhone models, will launch its fabled 12.9-inch iPad early next year. This is the same device we’ve heard about again and again and again.
Citing “people with knowledge of the matter,” Bloomberg says Apple’s suppliers are already preparing to manufacture the jumbo iPad, which will be larger than any of Apple’s existing mobile devices. Bloomberg makes no mention of how this super-sized iPad will differ from Apple’s current crop of tablets, though we’ve heard it could feature a 2K display.
Bloomberg notes that the larger iPad has been in Apple’s plans for at least a year as the company looks to shake up its tablet lineup. Although its still one of Apple’s flagship products, the iPad sales have slipped, possibly due to cheaper Android competitors. We’re expecting new iPad models sometime this fall, though they’re rumored to change in a marginal way.
Bloomberg also reiterates some rumors we’ve heard over the past few months, including the fact that Apple is preparing to introduce 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhones. We could see them as early as Sept. 9, though Apple hasn’t officially confirmed an event date. With some big announcements coming up from Samsung, Motorola and more, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Apple send out invites in the thick of IFA next week.
