Apple on Friday officially welcomed the Beats brand to its family and launched a dedicated section of its homepage to the headphone brand. The site is simple and says “Welcome to the Family.” The site provides a direct link to BeatsByDre, but as 9to5Mac notes, all sales are processed through the Apple Store. Apple also posted a short message welcoming the company and its employees.
“Today we are excited to officially welcome Beats Music and Beats Electronics to the Apple family,” Apple said. “Music has always held a special place in our hearts, and we’re thrilled to join forces with a group of people who love it as much as we do. Beats cofounders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre have created beautiful products that have helped millions of people deepen their connection to music. We’re delighted to be working with the team to elevate that experience even further. And we can’t wait to hear what’s next.”
Apple announced its intentions to acquire Beats for $3 billion in late May. Earlier this week reports surfaced suggesting that Apple will lay-off as many as 200 Beats employees that have redundant jobs already covered by Apple’s existing staff. Still, Apple said that it’s offering limited contracts to as many Beats employees as possible, and will search to find new jobs inside Apple for as many folks as it can.
