Microsoft’s new digital assistant is still limited to Windows Phone 8.1 devices here in the U.S., but the company recently confirmed that Cortana should arrive in the U.K. in the near future with a fresh new voice. The news comes from Cortana chief Marcus Ash, who offered a few details on the company’s plans for an international rollout in a conversation on Twitter.
Responding to a question online, Ash said Cortana should arrive as a developer preview in the U.K. by the end July, though he’s not ruling out the possibility of an “unforeseen issue” pushing the release a bit further back. Ash goes on to confirm that Cortana will indeed get t a British accent to help ease the transition, though that could be a bit disappointing to any Halo fans hoping to interact with the voice of Jen Taylor.
Hopefully Microsoft will include the option to use Taylor’s voice no matter where you’re using Windows Phone 8.1, but you may need to tweak your phone’s region if you want to get your Master Chief on. Cortana should still offer all the same cool features it comes with here in the U.S. though, ranging from helpful reminders and voice commands to funny comebacks and jokes.
