Well that was fast. Pre-orders for the LG G Watch just started arriving earlier this week and already one developer is offering a custom ROM for the Android Wear device. The ROM, which Android developer Jacob Day is calling Gohma, promises to improve battery life while also offering a smoother experience among other features.
Gohma version 1.0, which was posted in the RootzWiki forums this week, also promises reduced lag between screens, more intense vibrations and “other surprises.” The big deal is improved battery life, though, which is already proving to be a major issue for Android Wear and smartwatches in general. For now you can download a preview of the custom ROM for free, and the developer is taking donations through PayPal.
Improved battery life and performance sounds a little too good to be true, and if you’re worried about messing with your new smartwatch, you might be worth holding off. Of course, it was only a matter of time before the first Android Wear ROMs started rolling in. Google has done its best to clamp down on the wearable OS to offer a uniform experience, but we’re pretty sure this won’t be the last custom ROM we see for the new platform.
