Twitter announced Thursday that it has acquired SnappyTV in an effort to help users and partners share even more video, and in a bid to make its tools even more attractive to TV broadcasters and producers around the world.
“Snappy TV’s platform for live clipping, editing, and distribution is already widely used by brands and our media partners to share video clips on Twitter, both organically and via Twitter Amplify,” the company said. “Together we’ve worked with the biggest content partners in the world to inject the best video content into Twitter’s real-time conversation, straight from the TV to your mobile device.”
SnappyTV can be used by broadcasters to send out clips of anything from major breaking news events to highlight plays in thrilling sports games. More recently, SnappyTV’s Snap Reel tool allowed broadcasters to share GIFs, which are (coincidentally?) now supported in the Twitter timeline.
SnappyTV said that Twitter will allow it to expand its reach to partners around the globe, but that it will also continue to offer an open platform. Terms of the deal were not disclosed by either party.
