Microsoft is expected to announce a Surface Mini tablet next week at a press event set for May 20, but it looks like the company may be preparing to release an upgraded version of the Surface Pro as well. A support article published to Microsoft’s website yesterday revealed than an update for Windows 8.1 “adds support to the Surface Pro 3 camera.” The post was quickly pulled, but not before Twitter user @NotCassim was able to grab a screenshot.
The Surface Pro 2 just launched last September, though this might be an opportunity for Microsoft to get another model out and keep the brand fresh in consumer’s heads. Today’s leak follows a report last week from Bloomberg claiming Microsoft would unveil more than one Surface model at the May 20 event. One unnamed tablet, possibly the Surface Pro 3, will reportedly feature an Intel processor while the Surface Mini is expected to pack a Qualcomm CPU.
Meanwhile, the long-rumored Surface Mini is expected to put an emphasis on note-taking with a specialized stylus and OneNote integration. Of course this is all just rumor and speculation for now, but it won’t be long before Microsoft unveils the latest additions to its Surface lineup. Either way we’ll be covering the event life from New York next week.
