I was once among the crowd wondering what all the complaints were about when it came to Kickstarter games not being released on time. I had missed the first wave of big hits like The Banner Saga and Broken Age, but now that the second generation of big games are due for release, I am starting to feel the brunt of the much maligned delay monster.
Yacht Club Games has pushed its 8-bit throwback Shovel Knight “by a few weeks.” The company clarified on its official blog that the game would not be making its March 31 deadline, and more waiting must ensue.
So, we hemmed and hawed, and made a Super Important Executive Decision. This update is to let everyone know that Shovel Knight will be missing March 31 by a few weeks to make sure it’s a world class experience, and can release on all platforms simultaneously. This isn’t a major delay, or a long one; it’s simply a stretch of time to get everything polished and aligned.
More delays means a better game in the end, and I’ve been forgiving towards most of these indie studios considering the manpower and resources at their disposal. It’s annoying, but what can you do besides wait? I don’t want a broken game when its released, and Shovel Knight is one of my most anticipated games of the year.
When Shovel Knight does finally go live, what version will you be playing? I had signed up for the Wii U version, but ultimately decided to switch to my gaming platform of choice these days, the Nintendo 3DS.
