Samsung may not have just one new smartwatch, but instead many new Galaxy Gear models coming next week, according to a report published on Tuesday. Earlier in the day a separate report claimed that Samsung’s next Galaxy Gear will run Tizen instead of Android. However, The Verge suggests that multiple models will be in store, which means we may still see Android operating on at least one Galaxy Gear.
This is the first time we’ve heard that Samsung has several models in the works. We mostly assumed that the company was working on a follow-up to the Galaxy Gear with better battery life and support for more applications and even more devices. Perhaps the company is thinking of selling a more affordable model at the low-end, instead of only offering a $300 option that priced it above competitors such as Pebble. By doing so, Samsung may take some market share away from the smaller startup, while also boosting its own user base. We doubt it, but maybe Samsung also has a device that will support other operating systems, like iOS or Windows Phone, instead of only providing support for Android.
The South Korea-based company will likely unveil the new wearables during its Unpacked 5 press conference, where we also hope to hear about its Galaxy S5 flagship.
