Microsoft is set to unveil Satya Nadella as its new CEO, according to Bloomberg. The announcement, which we heard was reportedly coming next week, would end a several-month long search. Steve Ballmer, the Redmond company’s previous CEO, stepped down from the position late last year.
Nadella currently holds the title of Microsoft enterprise and cloud chief, and has been a veteran of the company for over 20 years. He originally worked with Sun Microsystems, but eventually fled to the greener Redmond pastures, where he initially worked on research for the company’s online services division. Nadella also had his hand in Office and Bing, before moving over to Microsoft’s cloud business.
The decision to name Nadella—who beat out other notable candidates, such as former Nokia CEO, Stephen Elop—as CEO was reportedly finalized within the last few weeks. Meanwhile, Bloomberg also says Microsoft is in discussions to replace Bill Gates as chairman, with the company’s lead independent director, John Thompson, as a possible candidate.
