Has HP given up on Windows 8? With Microsoft’s touchscreen-focused OS failing to catch on, the computer-maker is now pushing its outdated Windows 7 devices with a promotion promising $150 in savings when you opt for the older operating system.
The new promotion first appeared in an email sent out by HP over the weekend, but the company’s online store now promotes the same deals, claiming that Windows 7 is “back by popular demand.” The new promotion covers HP laptops and desktop computers, and the PC-maker claims these offers won’t last forever.
Microsoft’s decision to blur the lines between desktop and touchscreen OS with Windows 8 makes for a solid tablet or two-in-one hybrid experience, but for consumers still using non-touch PCs the new software has largely been a miss. Windows 9 is expected to address some of these issues, but likely won’t launch until 2015. Until then, HP and other computer-makers may be forced to push Windows 7 for as long as possible.
