The same malware that infiltrated Target’s systems and leaked credit and debit card information on more than 70 million shoppers is still out there. Worse, according to a new report that was released on Friday by security firm IntelCrawler, six U.S. retailers are still under attack from the same malware.
Reuters received exclusive information from IntelCrawler, though the news outlet did not provide information on the retailers who are currently under attack. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard the attack is far reaching, however. Krebs on Security discovered earlier this week that Neiman Marcus was also under attack, in addition to unnamed retailers in the U.S. who have storefronts in shopping malls. Krebs on Security also noted that hackers had access to data on 70 million Target shoppers, not just 40 million as was originally noted.
The attacks are suspected to originate from Eastern Europe. For now the hackers have not been identified. We’ll let you know if Reuters updates with the names of the new retailers who have fallen victim to the attack.
