Raptr, a social media network devoted to gaming, has released their report for the most-played games of 2013 across PC and Xbox 360.
From their 19 million user player-base, Raptr tracked statistics like most played new game, most played new property, and longest play sessions.
Unsurprisingly, Grand Theft Auto V is the most-played new game of 2013. That means it’s the most played game within 30 days of its release as compared to other games’ release windows. The surprise is how completely it destroyed Call of Duty: Ghosts in that category.
Side-scrolling block-building game Terraria’s 1.2 expansion topped out the game expansion list, beating out StarCraft 2. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag players stayed in their seats for the longest period of time (even longer than GTAV players). I’m happy to see Path of Exile, the free to play Diablo-style PC game, atop the list of most-played new property, but I can’t help but think it’s because this year was so light on new material.
Raptr also broke out the most-played overall game by platform. League of Legends and DOTA2 top out the PC list, showing just how incredibly popular free to play games and MOBA-style games are in particular. Call of Duty: Black Ops II beat out GTAV on 360, thanks in part to the 9-month head start it had.
Unfortunately, as Raptr’s graphic explains, Sony and Nintendo don’t allow players to display their gameplay time in any easily-trackable way, so neither publisher’s consoles nor handhelds could be tracked. I’d love to see the what the addition of Pokémon and Animal Crossing could do to these lists.
