Nexus 5 in White leak

Is today the day? We’ve been waiting for the Nexus 5 for months and the latest rumor claims Google will release its new smartphone alongside Android 4.4 KitKat this morning at 8 a.m. Pacific Time. GottaBeMobile reports that the device will launch on the Google Play store later today and ship on Nov. 1, citing multiple inside sources.

A Halloween launch makes sense, especially considering Android’s partnership with Kit Kat candy. With the holiday already upon us there’s no time left to organize a big event, meaning Google’s only option is to update the Play Store and send out a press release, unless it has some sort of last-minute Google Hangout scheduled. The device has likely already been shipped to retailers like Best Buy and Amazon as well, which explains the insane number of leaks we’ve seen over the past week.

The Nexus 5 is expected to come equipped with a 5-inch 1080p display, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, NFC, built-in wireless charging, and an 8-megapixel camera. Based on recent leaks the new handset will come in black and white and start at $349 unlocked

UPDATE: 8 a.m. has come and gone and still no Nexus 5, but we’re still hearing reports that Google will announce the device some time today. Stay tuned.
