Early iPad Air reviews are up and thanks to published tests from Primate Labs, we can see the early scores of the iPad Air and its 1.4GHz A7 processor versus the fourth generation iPad and its 1.4GHz Apple A6X processor.

Geekbench 3, which measures the multi-core performance of the processors, shows that the iPad Air received a score of 2,643 while the fourth generation iPad received a score of 1,408. That means the iPad Air is about twice as fast as last year’s model.

If you’re considering dropping $399 on the iPad 2, then you might want to look at how it stacks up against the Air, too. The tablet, which packs a 1GHz Apple A5 processor, received a score of 494 points in Geekbench 3. That’s about 1/5th of the performance of the iPad Air. In other words, if you can afford to drop the extra $100 for the entry-level iPad Air, it’s probably worth it.
