Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX must have been a huge success, because Square Enix has already announced plans to give its successor the HD treatment as well.

Announced through the PlayStation Blog, the series has sold more than 20 million copies and will most likely sell even more once the next package is released.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX contains more than just an HD makeover of the game. It will also hold contents of two other games in the series including Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix, a PSP exclusive previously only available in Japan, and the cinematics for Kingdom Hearts Re:coded remastered in HD.

When bought alongside Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX, this is the best way to refresh lost memories of a series that has been idle for far too long. Kingdom Hearts III is expected to be released on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 at sometime during the next console cycle. Development is expected to take some time with the director currently seven years into the progress of Final Fantasy XV.

It should give me plenty of time to catch up on Kingdom Hearts II, at least. I’ve only played through the first game. This new HD release finally gives me a good reason to go back and explore a bit.
