Microsoft has finally delivered on its promise made at E3. It’s been three months of long waiting, but now we all have the opportunity to finally play Halo 3 for free! Yes!
Microsoft’s record breaking first-person shooter Halo 3 will be joining Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes in the month of October as the free game available through Xbox Live’s Games with Gold.
Games With Gold is currently competing with Sony’s Instant Game Collection, which just announced Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Shadows of the Colossus HD, Hotline Miami, Poker Night 2, and Sine Mora as the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita’s free games in October.
Halo 3 was released in 2007 and has seen a sequel, a prequel, a massive expansion pack, a remake of the first Halo, and even an RTS spin-off in that six year window. It might have set records when released and had an awesome advertising campaign, but it has not stood the test of time as a must play gem from the halls of video gaming history.
Meanwhile, Sony is releasing games that were made available as early as this year.
I want to like Games With Gold, I really do, but there isn’t a soul alive who can’t see the difference in what Sony is offering and what Microsoft is.
Oh well, at least Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes is a lot of fun.
