AT&T on Wednesday announced it will be the exclusive carrier for Pebble’s famous Kickstarter success story. As companies look toward new mobile frontiers, smartwatches are becoming an intense area of interest. Pebble’s own vision of what wearable technology should be has gained a cult following since launching earlier this year, and has already infiltrated big box retailers such as Best Buy. AT&T is another feather in Pebble’s illustrious cap.
The device itself will be available for $150 starting Sept. 27 through AT&T’s website and select retail stores; wider availability will roll out in October. Pebble, as you’ll remember, is a neat piece of technology because of its openness and customization options. In addition to being able to change watch faces and download new ones, the device itself alerts users when a call, text or email comes streaming in, among other alerts. Best of all, Pebble promises battery life of up to a week, which is rated much better than Samsung’s recent Galaxy Gear.
Now that we’re slowly heading toward the holiday period, seeing Pebble next to array of AT&T smartphones might be a good way to capture a few extra sales, and an especially good way to reach new customers.
