When I first watched the Hyper Light Drifter trailer that you’ll find at the head of this post, I verbally blurted out “wow.” That was my kneejerk reaction to the mix of graphics and sound, and I’m still stunned every time I watch the clip.
Hyper Light Drifter, according to the creators, is “a 2D Action RPG in the vein of the best 8-bit and 16-bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale.” It was unveiled a week ago, and it was planned for the PC.
Since this Kickstarter project met and smashed its initial goal so quickly, it’s been tearing through its pile of stretch goals. As of today, Hyper Light Drifter surpassed the $220,000 mark. That means the game will come to the PC and the PlayStation 4/PS Vita.
Hyper Light Drifter just looks like one of those games, you know. The curious collision of art, audio and mechanics that could possibly set it up as one of the best upcoming projects. Now that we’ll also see it on the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, I’m all the more excited by it.
You can still back Hyper Light Drifter on Kickstarter. There are plenty of reward tiers, but dropping $10 will land you a digital copy of the game. If you want the PlayStation 4 or PS Vita version of the game, add an additional $5 onto your pledge and the project host will determine what to send you with a survey down the line.
What do you think of Hyper Light Drifter?
