Amazon will probably refresh its Kindle Fire HD before the holidays. It makes perfect sense, especially since the company already unveiled a new Kindle Paperwhite and since Apple is likely to introduce new iPads in the coming months as well. Now, pictures of the 7-inch model of the alleged device have surfaced, and we’re looking at a very unique looking Android tablet.
First, the edges have a very noticeable slant, likely to make it easier for holding in landscape mode. We can also see huge speaker grills up top that are so big they almost look like fan vents. There are also huge volume buttons on the left-hand side of the device. It’s all so big looking that the device appears to almost be a prototype, though the sticker with Amazon branding suggests otherwise. We can see from the photos, however, that the new Kindle Fire HD looks very thin.
The tablet pictured is expected to offer a Snapdragon 800 processor and a 1,920 x 1,200-pixel display, in addition to Android Jelly Bean and various storage options ranging from 16GB to 64GB of onboard storage. Based on those specs, we highly doubt this will come in at the rumored $99 price tag. An 8.9-inch model is also reportedly on the way with an 8-megapixel camera and a higher-resolution 2,560 x 1,600 pixel display.
Amazon has not confirmed the device but, again, we expect to hear a lot more about it in the coming weeks if this is indeed the real deal.
