Today at the Sony PlayStation Conference in Japan, Kadokawa Game Studio turned up to announce a brand new title for the PlayStation brand called Natural Doctrine. This new franchise will be Kadokawa’s first internally developed game, and it will be available on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
Not too much is known about the game at this point beside it being a strategy RPG. Fans of high fantasy might get a kick out of the wizards and warrior designs for the character models, but it is the monster designs which impress me the most, especially that gargantuan Minotaur. Science also seems to have emerged in this magical world as well with robots and guns making an appearance.
The teaser trailer released at the conference says that players will “assault through the world by natural selection,” so I guess we will be forcing evolution on some poor underdeveloped lifeforms. I really am having a hard time wrapping my brain around what that sentence means exactly. Anybody care to chime in and help me?
The game will be both single player and multiplayer, however it remains to be seen in what capacity this game will be available. The crude graphics don’t exactly scream of a wide retail release, so unless that is just a sign of early development, I’m going to assume that this is going to be a cheaper downloadable title.
More to come on Natural Doctrine as we find out. Kadokawa Game Studio is best known for helping Grasshopper Manufacture publish its B-grade action game Lollipop Chainsaw if you want to gauge your interest on the history of those involved.
