Mighty No 9

As reported yesterday, Keiji Inafune’s spiritual successor to the classic Mega Man series, Mighty No. 9, had been doing quite well on the Kickstarter front. It turns out that success has carried over into day two, and the $900,000 requested amount had been shattered in less than a day.

Currently, the project stands at a respectful $1,220,115 after only a single day. The real question is what could possibly be motivating gamers to jump aboard so eagerly with this project.

Is it the return of Keiji Inafune to the genre he is most famous for? He is a well regarded name amongst enthusiast gamers, and his skill with the 2D action genre had very few rivals.

On the other hand, it could simply be the allure of more “Mega Man.” The drought of games Capcom has put the series’ fans through has been a painful one, especially those looking for the beloved franchise to evolve in any kind of direction. This is just the next best thing available, and all signs currently point to it being better than what the real thing can provide.

Maybe Capcom will take this hugely successful Kickstarter as a wake-up call.

We want more Mega Man, and if we can’t get it from you, we’ll find our own way of getting it!

Head on over to the Kickstarter page and throw money at it if you are a fan of the Blue Bomber and classic video game action. The game is currently in development solely for the PC, but it is halfway into its stretch goal of securing a Wii U, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 release.
