“It takes a lot of work to make something this beautifully stupid.” That one quote from Steve Jaros, the Creative Director for Saints Row IV, pretty much sums up what makes the last two entries in the Saints Row series so special.
They’re stupid, sure, but they’re the breed of stupid that stands as a big, bullish joke with fans. This brand new developer diary for Saints Row IV stands as a self-labelled love letter to those who buy into the games.
There are those who dislike the absurd direction that Saints Row has moved towards over the last several years. Don’t count me among them. In an era where so many games try so hard to play seriously, Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row IV are instantly recognizable as a good time. If that comes at the expense of being another Grand Theft Auto clone, I’m happy.
Saints Row IV will hit the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms on Aug. 20. We’ll have a review for the title shortly after its release.
