We’ve heard very little about when BlackBerry Messenger will arrive for Android and iOS—only a vague summer timeframe—but it appears we’re edging closer to a final release. According to BlackBerryOS, the beta version of BBM has popped up in the Beta Zone center for both platforms, hinting that progress is on pace for a late Aug., early Sept. launch. Right now, the only way to access the beta is to get invited, but wider developer availability is supposedly incoming.
To the surprise of many, BlackBerry this year said it’s going to introduce one of its strongest assets, BlackBerry Messenger, to competing platforms. BBM is widely regarded as one of the best messaging services out there, but a lot has changed over the past few years, with options such as WhatsApp and iMessage dominating handsets today. It’s unlikely BBM will make significant waves on established Android and iOS territory but, who knows. We’ll have to wait and see how the experience translates over once the app is out. Above is supposedly BBM running on Android.
