Mario has Princess Peach, Super Meat Boy has Bandage Girl, Radd Spencer has Super Joe, and now Shovel Knight joins the army of protagonists out to save that special someone from the forces of evil.
Yacht Club Games has introduced backers of its Kickstarter funded game, Shovel Knight, to the titular character’s significant other, Shield Knight. The asymmetrically equipped maiden has worked hand in hand with Shovel Knight for years, but her mysterious disappearance is what sets off this 8-Bit inspired adventure.
More than just a gender swap, Shield Knight is her own character with her own combat and weapon specializations. Yacht Club Games describes her approach to combat as “deflecting both melee and projectile attacks easily before getting into range and crushing her foes.”
Just one more excellent throwback to the classic days of 2D platforming, a daring knight out to rescue his lost love. What could be more classic?
Shovel Knight is set to be released on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS as well as on PC, Mac, and Linux. It secured over $311K through Kickstarter back in April, and it is expected to be released in September.
