It appears that Apple may be in the midst of kicking off a celebration of its App Store fifth anniversary, or else several app developers just coincidentally decided to mark their apps down to free.
First noticed by The Verge in the wee hours of this morning, some of the most popular iOS apps have been marked down to free. If you head over to the App Store you will find such hits as Infinity Blade II, Tiny Wings, Where’s My Water?, Traktor DJ and several others are all currently free for the taking. As of this moment, there is no official word from Apple about these mark downs, and no press release has been issued.
The speculation currently is that this may be the beginning of a promotion for the App Store’s fifth anniversary which falls on July 10. Apple began sending out promotional materials to mark the occasion last week, so it seems like a pretty safe guess that these markdowns are connected.
We recommend you get them while you can as we have no idea if this promotion will last all week, or if possibly the selections will change each day.
