Motorola is certainly playing it close to the vest when it comes to the mysterious Moto X. The company rolled out a vague ad campaign this week promising a customizable handset but offering little information on what the smartphone will look like or when we might see it. But is it possible Motorola actually leaked the handset’s launch date in its newspaper ad and we all missed it? That’s what some people argue, claiming the image contains a subliminal message.
PhoneArena was the first to decipher the alleged code after a reader commented that the two people jumping into the water in Motorola’s new ad resemble an X and an I, which equals 11 in Roman numerals. Normally we would discount a rumor this crazy, but when you factor in that popular tech reporter Leo Laporte has revealed he’s been invited to a top secret Motorola event taking place on July 10th and 11th the pieces start to come together.
Of course, even if Motorola is planning a classified Moto X event for next week that doesn’t guarantee we’ll get to see the device. The company may use the event to talk about its new DROID RAZR Ultra devices, or it could just talk about the device without showing us anything. The handset is expected to sport mid-range specs and offer customers the option to customize the color, wallpaper and add an engraving to the design.
