Everyone had that one gadget that ignited their love affair with technology, and for me that was the GE 7-2753 “Spirit of 76” AM Radio.
If you’ve ever read my mini bio at the end of my articles it includes the comment, “his love of tech dates back to at least 1976 when his parents bought him a small transistor radio he would listen to before bed.” I often think back to that radio fondly, and one day I decided to see if I could find one on eBay. After I located images of it on the Web and found out its model number and went hunting for it, and a week or so later, and $15 less to my name, I had a brand new, still in the box, replacement of that radio.
Seeing as we just passed July 4 here in the U.S., this seemed like a fitting time to unbox the radio and show you firsthand what technology was like back in my childhood. Enjoy the unboxing, and make sure to check out the gallery below where I did a size comparison with an iPhone 5 so you can see just how big this radio is and the fact it took all that room to do just one job.
