Sony is all about giving free games away, and with the summer heat and long vacations quickly approaching, it needs a solid line-up to keep everyone happily playing a PlayStation product. That’s why the Instant Games Collection continues to impress into yet another solid month.
Highlighting the line-up is Battlefield 3. Most people who play the series likely already own it, but those who have been dancing warily on the outskirts of the whole modern warfare gaming fad might finally enjoy a free chance to jump into Frostbite 2 and give things a whirl in preparation for Frostbite 3.
Retro gamers also have some solid choices this month, including a stab at the SEGA Dreamcast cult–classic Jet Set Radio. The one and only roller-skating graffiti game will be available in blooming HD. SNK’s classic run ‘n gun game Metal Slug XX will get a free release on the PSP and Vita, and Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee will also get an HD port available for free.
The remaining title is a cute little PlayStation Vita game called Dokuro, starring a little skeleton out to rescue a princess from a evil lord’s castle. Think Mario’s eternal hell and you have a decent image.
The PlayStation Instant Game collection continues to be the absolute best bargain in video games. If you haven’t signed up, you’re missing out on a lot of quality free content that Xbox Live and even the venerated Steam aren’t willing to give away.
