No need to worry about playing MMOs on your PlayStation 4. Sony Online Entertainment already has that covered by bringing both PlanetSide 2 and DC Universe Online to the upcoming next generation console.

PlanetSide 2 is the bigger draw of the two games, and it is far more accessible being one of the premium free-to-play MMOs on the market. Huge battles, extensive customization. Senior Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing Laura Naviaux has claimed that players “have been asking for PlanetSide 2 to be playable on consoles” for quite some time.

“PS4 is the ideal platform to showcase the game’s beauty, depth and frenetic open world combat.”

DC Universe Online might not get the same love as PlanetSide 2, but it also enjoys a fairly large online community. The PC version received scored well enough with critics, but many were turned off by the sluggish menus and choppy framerates on the PlayStation 3. Somehow, I think Sony is more than ready to fix these problems on the superior technology.

“DC Universe Online was the first MMO available for PlayStation 3, and its thriving community is proof that we can create an exciting and robust console experience for players.”

DC Universe Online currently has a free-to-play model as well, but subscription options still remain for “legendary” players who have stuck with the game for the longest time.

With two confirmed exclusive MMOs available for an affordable price for the PlayStation 4, does this make the console any more attractive to you? I’m not huge on DC Universe Online, but PlanetSide 2 is definitely a game I’ve been waiting to get my hands on.

And who knows? Could their success eventually lead to Everquest 3 on consoles?
