A second generation Nexus 7 tablet designed and manufactured by Google and Asustek Computer is expected to hit stores later this year according to DigiTimes. A source in the tablet’s supply-chain told the news outlet that the new device would ship at the end of the second quarter and go on sale in the third quarter in July. However, DigiTimes‘ sources aren’t always dead on and the report should be taken with a grain of salt.
The supply-chain source also revealed that the second generation Nexus 7 will feature a 7-inch low-temperature poly-silicon display panel, manufactured by AU Optronics (AUO). However, the Taiwanese company declined to comment on the rumors.
Nexus 7 production is expected to swing into full gear later this year, and another source from the supply chain told DigiTimes that Asus plans to ship 12 million tablets in 2013, almost twice as much as the 6.3 million units it shipped last year.
