Thanks to some file digging, it looks like one of the major announcements from the upcoming Google I/O conference has been revealed, and it appears that Android is about to get serious about gaming.
The folks over at AndroidPolice have done some digging in the new version of Google Play Services that is currently being distributed and discovered multiple references and files for “Google Play Games.” Amongst the files are references to a slew of new features such as achievements, features and matchmaking services. Possibly one of the most exciting services hinted at is cross-device game save synching.
There is no word as of yet as to when all of these features will go live, but an announcement at Google I/O this week – which we will be in attendance and covering – seems like a given. As we have no clue if developers have been given access to these new tools already, it may take a while for them to incorporate every thing, but once they do so, it should be pretty awesome.
