With the close of the 2013 fiscal year, Nintendo has released financial documents regarding sales performance for their hardware and software.
The lifetime sales for the regular Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL hit 31.09 million at the end of the 2013 fiscal year.
Since launching in 2011, the Nintendo 3DS has sold more than 31.09 million units. It’s already ahead of the original Xbox and GameCube for lifetime sales. Though, it has a lot of work to do to catch the top two selling systems of all time: the PlayStation 2 sits with 155 million sold, while the Nintendo DS sits with 153 million sold.
In terms of software, Nintendo sold more than 45 million games for the 3DS during this past fiscal year. That brings the lifetime software sales total for the Nintendo 3DS to over 95 million units.
During the most recent Nintendo Direct presentation, the company rolled out a slew of upcoming software for the Nintendo 3DS. Expect those games to work towards propelling Nintendo’s newest handheld forward in the coming months and years.
