There are a lot of reasons to be excited on July 4th. Fireworks, Barbecues American Independence. Only, in Japan, July 4th this year will add another layer to the excitement with gamers being able to save the planet once again from giant flesh eating ants.
Earth Defense Force 2025, or Earth Defense Force 4 as it is known in Japan, finally has a release date confirmed for overseas on July 4th. The announcement comes in the form of an exciting new trailer with some awkwardly dubbed English explaining the new troops available in the sequel.
The original game, Earth Defense Force 2017, granted players a single military unit customizable through weapon choice, but the sequel has another layer of depth with performance classes, each tailored for specific needs on the battlefield. Everything from heavy machine gunners to scouts who can call supply drops from the air.
The best thing about 2017 was how the simplicity of it all never got old, so I wonder how well added layers of depth will hold up to the formula. Online co-op is without a doubt the driving force behind the decision for more classes, so we might even find a more happy medium of content and simplicity.
Earth Defense Force 2025 will be release in Japan on July 4th for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. No date yet has been announced for America, but an eventual release has been confirmed.
