T-Mobile’s new UnCarrier pricing plans have gone live a few days earlier than expected. While the Magenta network still has an event planned for March 26, it now appears doubtful that it will be solely focused on the new plans as those are now live on the carrier’s site.
Leaked last week, the UnCarrier plans start at a base price of $50 per month which will get you 500MB of data, along with unlimited voice and texts. For an extra $20 you can get unlimited data on the phone. Where all of this gets tricky is if you want to enable hotspot tethering on your device. That data needs to be purchased as an add-on and goes up to 12GB for $110 a month total.
This is a definite move away from the days of subsidized devices for the company, and we’ll have to see how it pans out for them. Currently T-Mobile still lacks LTE support, but that is coming soon, and there has already been evidence of it being tested in some markets. Considering the emphasis put on data in these plans, it seems fairly safe to say the carrier is going to try to quickly roll out as much coverage as it can.
