Twitter is reportedly preparing to release a standalone app similar to SoundHound at the end of March called Twitter Music. A new CNET report claims the social networking company wants to dress up its acquisition of We Are Hunted into a Twitter-friendly discovery platform. You could theoretically use the platform to tell your friends what you’re listening to, see suggestions and more.
The app will allegedly debut on iOS first, and will offer a four tab format, with artists and songs displayed in a grid design. “Suggested” will recommend songs based on a user’s follower graph, while #NowPlaying will display links to songs tweeted out by those you follow. “Popular” will display what’s currently trending on We are Hunted, while “Emerging” will be a place to find up-and-coming artists.
CNET says songs played from within the app will stream through SoundCloud. The report also claims people can use the service even if they don’t have a Twitter account. And unlike Vine, which launched earlier this year, the new app will be Twitter-branded, and help build on the company’s immense user base.
