The Mass Effect trilogy is effectively coming to a close very soon, turning the page from one of the great chapters of video game history. BioWare has announced two final DLC packages, Reckoning and Citadel, for Mass Effect 3 that will cap off half a decade of hard work and nostalgia.
The first wil be available on February 26th. Reckoning will be another free update to expand the already massive multiplayer half of the game, continuing to add more characters, kits, upgrades, and weapons to the fray. If anything can be said about Mass Effect 3‘s multiplayer, it’s that it has done a wonderful job transforming itself from the simplicity of its launch format.
Citadel will be a single player DLC pack sending Commander Shepard on “one final, sentimental journey.” Not much is known about the gameplay as of yet, but it will allow the commander and friends to return to the titular space station and reconnect with characters from every game in the Citadel.
I wonder if Lorik Qui’in will make an appearance. This guy was so cool.
Executive producer Casey Hudson also took the time to thank fans in the press release.
“The team has poured heart and soul into Mass Effect 3: Reckoning and Mass Effect 3: Citadel. As the launch of these chapters near, the feeling around the studio is bittersweet.
“We have always been humbled and driven by the passion of our fans for the Mass Effect trilogy,” he added. “We hope fans will enjoy spending more time with some of their favorite characters — we have certainly enjoyed spending time creating them. We’re excited to release this final sendoff for the trilogy and move forward into the future of the Mass Effect universe.”
Reckoning and Citadel will be available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Reckoning will be a free addition, but Citadel will cost 1200 MS points or $14.99.
