A new report states Apple is prepping for the next generation MacBook Air in the third quarter of 2013. The source claims the update will include a “facelift” and the usual hardware upgrades including new Intel Haswell processors and possibly the addition of Retina Display models.
Interestingly, though, the Retina Display consumes more power than its current display technology as well as a price premium we’ve seen in the rest of the MacBook line. The Air has long boasted impressive battery life and was the “cheapest” in the MacBook family, this may change that.
While the addition of Retina Display may push the MacBook Air Retina Display into MacBook Pro category in respect to pricing, we know that Apple is not shy about potential cannibalization of its own products. At any rate these rumors are just that and we will need to wait and see if these rumors come true.
