T-Mobile might be the first carrier in the U.S. to offer BlackBerry’s all new Z10, Bloomberg reported on Thursday. Testing is currently underway, and things are apparently going quite well. “The device is more stable than we anticipated,” said T-Mobile’s Frank Sickinger. Right now, the target release is mid-March, a little over a month from now.
Sickinger said that if the carrier can speed up the launch date, it will. For now, T-Mobile is working hard to be the first “out of the gate” with the Z10 here on American shores. The device is currently available in the U.K. and Canada, where BlackBerry said first-day sales were the best of any BlackBerry device before it.
When the device does actually launch, actual pricing is still up for debate. Sickinger said $199 “is consistent with what T-Mobile USA has considered” for BlackBerry’s new flagship—a price typical for most flagships. The U.S. is a hugely competitive market currently dominated by Android and iOS, so the Z10 certainly has a pretty tall mountain to climb. The fact that it’ll be offered through multiple U.S. carriers is a great start; we just need it to actually go on sale.
