Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes is now available for the iOS, and publisher Ubisoft has a new trailer to show it off.

The Saturday morning cartoon RPG/puzzle game spin on the classic fantasy series walked away with a few surprising awards back when it was released for the Nintendo DS in 2009 to a lot of unexpected praise. Since then, it has been given an HD port to Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and PCs and has even obtained the status of a minor masterpiece as of late.

However, it should have come as no surprise. Before Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP launched them into mobile super-stardom, developer Capybara Games showed off their puzzle gaming chops with Critter Crunch, a fun little indie puzzle game for the iOS which was also given the HD treatment on PlayStation Network. It wasn’t a huge hit, but its gameplay proved to be popular enough to slap RPG elements into it and call it a Might and Magic game.

This most recent take on the game was actually developed by Tag Games and is a straight port of the HD versions of the game, keeping the high quality sprites and animated cutscenes intact.

If you are a fan of puzzle games and RPGs, I would highly recommend checking this one out. Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes is a wonderful little game with the perfect balance of deep RPG customization and the pick up and play nature of the best puzzle games. While the HD sprites and art in the game are nice, my inner retro-gamer is still partial to the slightly more pixelated Nintendo DS version, which is also available cheaply through secondhand stores.

Either way, be sure to check out this small classic. It’s some of the best $5 you can spend on iOS. A Google Play version is also us around the corner.
