J.J. Abrams is about to take a trip to a galaxy far, far away as he takes up the directing duties of Star Wars Episode VII.
Ever since it was announced there would be new Star Wars movies, one of the hottest questions on the Internet has been who would direct Episode VII. Many names have been thrown about, but the Hollywood trade papers are now reporting that the duties will fall to J.J. Abrams. While his name has been thrown around a lot as someone the fans wanted to see behind the camera, it seemed unlikely to happen as he has been busy with another outer space saga, Star Trek.
Deadline is quoting “a source with knowledge of the situation,” while The Hollywood Reporter is saying that the negotiations are near completion.
Abrams said as recently as this past Oct. that he would not be taking up the directorial duties on the next installment of the iconic franchise, but apparently he changed his mind after heavy courting from the new head of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy.
From the sounds of it, an official confirmation should come within days.
