KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently published a report with his Apple product launch predictions for this year. You might quickly want to write off Kuo as “captain obvious,” but it’s important to note that he correctly called out the launch of the fourth generation iPad, which was seen as a surprise early release to most industry pundits.
Kuo believes the iPad 5 will be thinner and lighter than the current model, which is pretty obvious at this point, and that it will launch alongside the iPhone 5S and the iPad mini 2 (with a Retina display) during the third quarter of this year. He even suggests that Apple will launch a “new design iPhone 5,” a modified iPod touch 5, a new iPod nano and a new Retina MacBook Pro during the same quarter. The modified iPhone 5 design seems fishy to us, but it could be in-line with rumors that Apple’s creating a budget iPhone. Perhaps it will simply offer less storage and come in at a lower price point.
Note that Kuo doesn’t have an Apple HDTV on his chart above. Apparently he expects it to launch in 2014 and not anytime this year.
