The China Times claims Apple is researching “Touch On Display” panels for its upcoming iPhone 5S, which is reportedly coming out this summer in a multitude of colors. Problems with Apple’s iPhone 5 display related to touch recognition affecting the device’s in-cell screen tech have reportedly prompted the change.

There’s not a lot of information surrounding touch on display tech, only that the screens are “thin and tough.” Other than that, Apple is hoping the new panels will be the solution to the iPhone 5 experiencing “interface issues” and “slow response speed.” Who knows, though; we heard a recent report that Apple is considering Sharp IGZO for its next iPhone display, so may the best screen tech win.
