Apple Maps isn’t the only service leading unsuspecting tourists off the beaten path. Just days after Australian police warned the public not to depend on the company’s disastrous mapping service, authorities are saying Google Maps is equally culpable for leading people astray.
Apparently, directions through Google Maps suggest motorists travel down a one-way road “not built for heavy traffic.” This, according to authorities, creates a massive safety issue for both tourists and locals. We certainly aren’t obligated to follow digital directions down to the T, but it’s obviously a problem when they are steering people toward danger.
So far the mapping services offered by Apple and Google have been blacklisted. Who’s next? Bing Maps? Yahoo? Nokia’s new Here? Google has yet to respond to the warning issued by Australian police.
