Australian police have warned motorists against using Apple’s own mapping solution in iOS 6. We’ve already reported on the ugly bugs, but the police force is even more worried. Why? It has already had to save six drivers who ended up stranded in the middle of a national park after following Apple’s incorrect directions.

“Tests on the mapping system by police confirm the mapping systems lists Mildura in the middle of the Murray Sunset National Park, approximately 70km away from the actual location of Mildura,” Vic Police News said in a recent report. “Some of the motorists located by police have been stranded for up to 24 hours without food or water and have walked long distances through dangerous terrain to get phone reception.”

The police force is advising anyone planning to drive to Mildura use a different mapping solution, since the current one could be life threatening. In other words, yes, you’re probably better off with a good old paper map instead.
