jOBS - Ashton Kutcher

jOBS: Get Inspired. was originally going to be a television movie, but it appears that things may be changing ever so slightly.

It was announced last April that Ashton Kutcher would be playing Steve Jobs in a biographical picture of the Apple co-founder’s life. The story will apparently follow Jobs from 1971 to 2000, and cover his time at Apple, NeXT, Pixar and his eventual return to the company that made him famous. Unlike the upcoming feature film scripted by Aaron Sorkin, this production is not based on the official biography of Jobs written by Walter Isaacson.

While the Kutcher movie appeared to be heading directly to television, a new twist has appeared. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will be shown on the closing night of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in Jan. The Park City, Utah-based film festival is one of the most prestigious events in the film industry these days, and landing a high profile spot such as the closing film is no small feat. With jOBS clearly being the first movie about the charismatic CEO out of the gate since his passing, and Sorkin’s film still in the scripting stage, you have to wonder if there might be a little change in marketing strategy occurring here.

Either way, we should know next month if Kutcher is able to pull off this role.
